Corporate responsibility
Corporate responsibility is one of the factors that underpins the success of Tokmanni’s strategy. The themes are Products and Sourcing Chain, People, Climate and Business Integrity. These themes are based on the materiality analysis Tokmanni commissioned in 2015, and they remain relevant.
Products and Sourcing
At Tokmanni, sustainability and low prices go hand in hand. For us, responsible sourcing means especially assuring that the principle rights of people working in our supply chain are met.
We are also working to reduce the environmental impact of our factories and supply chain. The amfori BEPI environmental programme as well as increasing the certification of high-risk raw materials and sustainability labelled products are examples of the tools we use.

Climate
Reducing our climate impacts is one of the most important areas of corporate responsibility and sustainability at Tokmanni. The main emphasis of our climate strategy is the climate impacts of our own operations, particularly the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and the energy usage of our properties.
Tokmanni's goal is to be carbon neutral in 2025 with regard to its own operations (i.e., scope 1 and 2 emissions). The goal will be achieved by reducing energy consumption and improving energy efficiency, increasing the use of renewable heating, obtaining renewable energy certificates i.e., guarantees of origin for electricity, and, by compensation. All the electricity we use is already now renewable.
The wide and reliable assessment of our operations is important to us. In summer 2020, Tokmanni became a global pioneer by adopting ambitious climate targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Since 2019 we have reported to the CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project). Also, 2019 is the first year for which we reported our climate risks and opportunities in accordance with the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures).

People
At Tokmanni, our target is to become the preferred employer in the Finnish retail sector for our employees. It is important for us to offer our employees possibilities to develop in their work and to maintain a good work-life balance. For us, it is also essential that our employees are content at work and that our teams have a good team spirit.
Furthermore we want to ensure that the people manufacturing our products work in appropriate conditions. We aim to build long-term relationships with suppliers of our private labels particularly in high-risk countries. Additionally we use third party audits and perform own social compliance audits to ensure that we know in which conditions our products are manufactured.

We observe the relevant legislative requirements and the principles of good governance in everything we do. In addition, the company is guided by its Code of Conduct, which consists of the Code of Conduct and supplementary principles, policies and instructions.
